I have a full time job (not dealing with computer industry at all) but love computers. I also am fairly good at web design, nothing flash though. I run across landscaper websites, or local restaurant websites, and they are done poorly. 1 page with everything scrolling down forever in all kinds of text and what not. No usability at all. I know I could do better without charging a lot. I've been thinking of being a reseller, but I have some questions: #1. Do you need to find a niche? #2. Do you need to create a website for your reseller domain that looks like a web hosting company's website? Because after all that's what I'll be, a webhost. #3. How do you advertise or get the word out about your reselling service? Any other advice you might want to send my way I'd appreciate it while I do more research. Thanks! |

Me too. But how does the above connect with this - > I've been thinking of being a reseller Reselling what? The issue on reselling is that there are almost as many resellers as customers*; it's a very competitive market. *ok, ok, I exaggerate - but you know what I mean. -- Andrew seo2seo.com sick-site-syndrome.com UK Residents: STOP THE "10p Tax Ripoff" Sign the petition to stop the government stealing from the very poorest tell your friends about this petition: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/10penceband/ |

If it were easy, everyone would have successful webhost business. > Any other advice you might want to send my way I'd appreciate it while > I do more research. Thanks! Make sure you know a lot about business. You should also know a good deal about webhosting too - but knowing how to run a successful business (*any* business) is the key. --Tina |

No, but it could help you get certain clients with greater ease. Usually the niche is just being a good designer and knowing how to get business. > #2. If nothing else, a portal or splash page and maybe a list of the client sites, but you will want to probably have a site. > #3. Online, offline, the phone book, local ads, directories, forums, sites, getting ads online, or however is relevant and financially sensible. -- Tim Greer, CEO/Founder/CTO, BurlyHost.com, Inc. Put up a web site advertising your services. Contact local businesses and try to sell them web design services. Offer to host the sites as part of a package deal. That'll give you a base from which you can build your business. -- Red |

Thanks! > Don't think this will make you rich, view it as additional income. I started reselling about 4 or 5 years ago - I got tired of giving away the hosting business. I don't advertise hosting because it's much too competitive, but I sell it as an additional service to my web development packages. About 75% of my clients now host with me and this year it will generate almost $11,000 in revenue (my cost approx $600/yr) with minimal additional effort. Like I said, it won't make me rich, but it's an additional income stream. |
